a sew-sew birthday, just kidding, it was awesome

Aaron’s folks gave me an antique dress form, which perfectly complemented Aaron’s gift of a sewing machine for my birthday.

More Milk Glass

Posted in Uncategorized by kaycereed on February 2, 2010

Here is a set of 4 footed milk glass mugs, decorated in the cutest, colorful cherries.  Markings include “U.S.A.”, “HEAT PROOF”, and “16″.  If anyone knows the brand (anchor hocking??, westmoreland?) please let me know.  Aaron and I will definitely be drinking our morning coffee out of these in our 1950′s kitchen!

Trever the Travet

We’ve decided to thank everyone who participated in our 3-month-long efforts at researching the usability and user experience of our Travets.  I’m calling this little USB guy, Trever.  We will be sending these to all of our customers in the coming weeks.

depression-era sideboard

I lied earlier this week when I said I was done thrifting.  This poor sideboard/credenza was sitting in the store with an incredible price tag, I couldn’t possibly walk away.  Today’s thing of the day is refinishing furniture, which this piece will surely need!  I’ll post again as I progress on it, and integrate this wonderful piece into our home!

Dinner and wedding planning with the girls…

Posted in events, fashion, vintage, wedding by kaycereed on January 27, 2010

Today’s thing of the day is wedding planning.  One of my best girlfriends, Chelsey, has asked me to join in her wedding party as a bridesmaid!!  So very excited.
Because I recently planned my own wedding and another friend, Nina, has great experience planning wedding events, we’re off to the sushi bar tonight for dinner to get things going.  Very pumped to get a project going with Nina (we had various joint efforts in graduate school and she also helped me plan my own wedding).  I’m also partial to Chels’ wedding because her vision is an outdoor event with lots of vintage charm!  Anxious to talk about colors, flowers, graphic work for invitations/savethedates/etc, website, really anything Chels needs our help with.

Here is the dress we’re all going to wear, how pretty!!!

last shopping trip of the week

Today’s thing of the day is milk glass. I just love this stuff. It’s pretty intricate in the details, but the milk-white makes it all seem uber simple. It’s easy to mix and match pieces, and of course adding a pop of color like a few flowers would work wonderfully. I think I’ve met my quota for the week, the Ol Man says I’m starting to acquire too much.

Today’s thing of the day is vintage kid’s stuff.  I’m somewhat obsessed with old toys…  I’m absolutely loving Oscar’s Room over at AT!  Here are a couple of my finds.

my lucky day

Posted in Goodwill, mid century modern by kaycereed on January 26, 2010

Today’s thing of the day is collecting. I’ve been a collector for years, since I can remember really.  I recall being very young and taking anything and everything my grandmas would want rid of.  I realize now (especially after watching A&E’s “Hoarders”) that it would be easy for a collector to go astray.  I’ve decided that the best way to keep things under wraps, whilst still continuing my obsession, is  to open a store on Etsy.  I’m also going to start putting things in Nanny’s booth at the antique mall.  The hard part now will be deciding what to keep for myself, and what to sell.

I can’t say enough about Bloomington’s Goodwill store on the west side of town.  They are constantly updating the material on their shelves, bringing in pieces of furniture that you wouldn’t believe are sitting there with a $5 price tag, the overall experience is steller.  I frequent all of the second hand stores around, they easily have the most mid century modern and vintage finds.

Here are just a few of today’s finds…  I’m on my way, Etsy!  Store details to follow in the coming weeks!
